Opportunities for Members.
Although PFLAG's primary purpose is to provide support to parents, families and friends of LGBT persons, it also provides outreach opportunities for those interested. There are no requirements for attendance at meetings or for membership. Nonetheless, some of our members choose to use their personal talents in outreach endeavors.
Some of us participate actively at the level of our local chapter in simple ways: by attending meetings so that newcomers have someone to talk to, by bringing a cover dish to a chapter event, or by volunteering to stuff envelopes.
Some speak at schools, religious organizations, and civic groups.Others engage in advocacy efforts addressing the discrimination that our loved ones suffer in our society. Sometimes, simply writing a letter to our representatives is enough to give you the sense that you are making a difference in your loved one's life.
It should be stressed that you will not be asked to do anything you do not want to do. Your level of participation is a very personal choice and we, better than anyone, understand how personal that is. Whether you seek support, education or advocacy opportunities, all members have the freedom to choose at what level they want to become involved in PFLAG.
Whether you are a member or not, contact us if you would like to help.
