Our main functions
PFLAG serves three basic functions: support, education and advocacy. You can reach related sections on this website by using the links on the menu bar to the left.
Support. We strongly recommend that you start from the "Support"
section if you're the parent, family member or friend of a loved one that just
revealed to you that he or she is a lesbian, gay, bisexual, or
transgendered (LGBT)
person. By harnessing support (not only through our group but also from other trusted sources),
your initial reactions will gradually improve. That's normal for anyone. Hopefully,
by growing through this difficult time, you and your loved one will be able to build
a stronger, healthier relationship based on honesty and mutal respect.
Education. The "Education" section of this website has a lot of information
that parents like you have found helpful. Take your time reading the information. View different
sources. The goal is to seek a better understanding for ourselves which will result in an
improved relationship with our gay loved ones.
Advocacy. This website has information about "Advocacy" opportunities,
ways that we can become involved to ensure the quality of life of our gay loved ones
with respect to their human rights. If you're at the initial stages of dealing with
the information about a gay loved one, don't worry about these pages for now. We
each have our ways of contributing to society. You will not be
thrown into a world of activism just because you have a gay loved one. That'll
be a very personal choice you may or may not wish to make when you're ready.
